PROC Autoreg versus PROC PDLREG

I am trying to do distributed lag models and I am confused which of these procs to use. At times the documentation seems to suggest that PDLREG is for special cases like the Almon lag but others argue that it is the place to do ARDL generally.

Anyone know? I have done days of searching on line and in the documentation to no success.
